We at MMG Brands are pleased to give our rankings of top 10 global diversified brands, also called as conglomerates, for 2008 as below:

Comments on the above rankings:

  • One common thread is that they are all very strong in engineering and manufacturing, though they handle different products and services. GE is an engineering company but has a very large presence in financial products and services. 

  • United Technologies is in aerospace, elevators etc., 

  • Hyundai, a Korean Chaebol, is into heavy engineering, autos etc., It became known to the world through its shipbuilding activities which was then dominated by Japanese corporations.

  • Samsung is a giant Korean Chaebol and is into many industries.

  • Siemens of Germany is a major force in electrical engineering and was ranked in the list. However, it has been convicted for paying bribes all over the world and fined more than 1 billion dollars. Hence we have removed its name from the list. 

  • LG is another Korean Chaebol popular in consumer electronics, refrigerators etc., 

  • Fiat is well known in the automotive and engineering sectors and owns the Alfa Romeo brand. 

  • Hitachi makes earth moving equipment along with TVs. 

  • Matsushita is a Japanese giant conglomerate and owns the Panasonic brand. 

  • Philips makes a number of electrical, electronic products and appliances. 

  • ThyssenKrupp is into heavy mechanical and metallurgical engineering.
